The Rev. Kevin M. Goodman

Retreat Director

 

Kevin is from New Orleans, the city of great coffee, delicious food, the Saints, Drew Brees and birthplace of Jazz. Prior to accepting his call to ordained ministry, Kevin worked as a TV Producer. He studied at The General Theological Seminary in New York City and did his seminarian field placement at St. Luke in the Fields. When he arrived in Chicago, he worked with The Night Ministry on the Youth Outreach Team (YOT) working with young people residing on the streets in Lakeview. He served as curate at All Saints’ Chicago where he was program director for Ravenswood Community Services (RCS), an agency of Episcopal Charities and Community Services. RCS is the non-profit All Saints’ established as the church’s hunger and poverty relief outreach ministry to neighbors in Uptown and Ravenswood. As Saint James Cathedral’s Associate Dean, Kevin was responsible for congregational growth and formation. He convened the Parish Council and worked with the Dean empowering leaders to minister to each other in order to change the world. Kevin currently serves as Associate for Communicaitons and Outreach and Chaplain to the Day School at St. Chrysostom's Chruch and Day School, Chicago. He loves Walt Disney World, monorails, films and Kate Bush.

The Rev. Dr. Sam Portaro
Spiritual Director

Sam was ordained in 1975 and served as Vicar at Church of the Epiphany in Newton, North Carolina, the Episcopal Chaplain to the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and Associate to the Rector of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. Sam retired in December 2004 after 22 years of service as the Episcopal Chaplain at the University of Chicago. He is the author of seven books and continues his ministry of writing, speaking, retreat direction, and consulting. Sam is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Virginia Theological Seminary. He earned his D.Min. from Princeton Theological Seminary.
