DISNEY MONASTICS

Beginning November 10, 2016, modern day monastics will create a spiritual community at the place "where dreams come true." Write a spiritual autobiography. Create a rule of life. Pray the daily office. Reflect on how spiritual messages are embedded in popular culture. Discern with a spiritual community how to connect with God in every moment in every day. This retreat challenges modern-day monastics to experience God and to reflect on the realities of God's world in Disney's premier vacation destination.

 

We will participate in lectures about creation, the power of myth, and about death and resurrection then spend time reflecting on spiritual challenges with disciplined response. When the retreat is over, the community disperses, keeping in touch through social and digital media, encouraging each other to respond to the Gospel call for justice within their particular communities and contexts.

 

The Walt Disney Company has an impressive track record of commercial success. As important as scripture stories are, the reality is all stories in popular culture have something to teach us about our shared humanity in powerful ways. During the first week of Movember, Disney Monastics will gather at the Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista Downtown Disney to reflect on scripture, culture and tradition, and, more importantly, to discern Gospel action.

 

Our retreat includes a talented faculty of spiritual leaders who bring extensive knowledge on scripture, spiritual direction and practice, theological reflection and physical health.

 

The retreat cost is $1500. This includes registration, course materials, transportation to and from the Orlando International Airport, housing, meals, admission to the Walt Disney World theme parks (3 day single, expiring), and all transportation around the Walt Disney World Resort. Monastics are responsible for making and securing their own flight arrangements.
